Lima is good for beans -

It has been a hectic schedule for the last week and difficult to get at
internet and make my site work...

so to fill in the gap on Peru.

we arrived in Peru on a late flight (12.35 am) - glad that we had arranged
accomodation and taxi pickup by internet in advance.

The driver handed us a letter in english by the owner of the hotel we were
going to. She apologised that we could not book in with her that night but
explained that we were being taken to another local hotel of hers and would be
collected next am to come for free breakfast and settle in a room in her good
hotel.
The reason was that another person had gone to the beach and stupidly taken his
valuables - yes - you guessed it - no money, no passport and was held up at
knifepoint.

We slept OK in a shabby place in bunk beds and went next day for the worst
breakfast ever - juice that was unidentifiable except for yuk, bread that
crumbled and instant coffee.

By 11am we were desperate for lunch and were told there was only one reliable
local restaurant.

The walk there was dreary and bleak but the food OK (if you like chicken and
chips and salad).

Lima was all bleak and totally unappealing. The only saving grace was an
afternoon city tour where we went to the convent catacombs and saw old bones
galore.

We were so glad to get up next day at 3.30am to fly to the magic of Cusco and
anticipation of Macchu Pichu.

PS Though we were on a good tour bus we were taken aback when the guide told us
to keep the windows shut because it wasn´t safe....

Therefore...Lima is only good for beans
